NEW DELHI: A hoax that targeted travel enthusiasts with fraudulent hotel and resort deals was dismantled by the Delhi Police cyber cell, resulting in the arrest of three persons. The police were informed about the fraud through a complaint registered with the cyber police station in North Delhi.

The arrested suspects were identified as Abhishek (28), a resident of Shiv Vihar, Delhi, Karan Majumdar (36), a resident of Indira Nagar, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Abhishek Verma (32), a resident of Hari Nagar, Delhi . .

According to police, the scam, which involved fraudulent loans amounting to Rs 95,000, was exposed following a complaint from Jazeel Muhammad of Hindu Rao Hospital, who was cheated during a family trip to Manali.

The suspects were arrested in a raid spanning from Mandawali, Delhi, to Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, after intensive surveillance and analysis of telephone records and financial transactions linked to the fraud.

The victim initially came across the fraudulent operation through an online advertisement for Canaves Continental Resort and Spa Pvt. Ltd.

He was tricked into attending a membership seminar on the pretext of paying a small fee, which led to unauthorized transactions using his debit card.

Police have seized several items from the suspects, including laptops, mobile phones, debit cards and documents used in organizing the scam.

The evidence showed that the suspects had set up elaborate fake identities and logistical arrangements in popular hill stations such as Shimla and Manali to convince potential customers of their legitimacy.

Further investigations have revealed several similar complaints against the suspects, indicating a well-organized operation that took advantage of the growing interest in domestic tourism.
