Japanese Skewered Chicken

This is a traditional Japanese meal that gets its woodsy flavor from grilling chicken on skewers over a charcoal fire. Tarte sauce is served alongside. But nowadays many eateries serve teriyaki sauce with it.



Miso soup

This recipe should be at the top of your list if you love salads and soups. This traditional Japanese soup is prepared with a mix of vegetables and dried fish, such as tuna, bonito and baby sardines, along with seaweed. Variations of this dish are available all over the world.



Tempura

Do you also love fried chicken? Fancy Japanese-style fried crabs or shrimps? Fish (shrimp, shrimp, crab, cod, eel or scallops) fried in batter is called tempura, a Japanese delicacy. It usually comes with dashi sauce on the side.



Teppanyaki

It is more of a cooking method that involves cooking food on an iron griddle rather than being a specific dish. The meal may consist of chicken grilled over a charcoal flame, shellfish or vegetables. Soy sauce is served alongside.



Udon noodles

Craving a comfort food snack? You can choose from udon noodles. It is cooked with noodles made from thick wheat flour and served with mirin, soy sauce and dashi. It usually has chopped scallions as a garnish.



Kakiage

This is a Japanese rice-based meal that consists of dipping fish and vegetables. It is similar to tempura.



Bento

Bento is a complete meal in one, not just any dish. It comes in a box with rice or noodles, meat or fish, plus pickled and cooked vegetables. In Japan these are very popular and are made by women for their partners or offspring.
