A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in a luxury five-star hotel.

The body of a victim in her 50s was discovered at the luxury Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey.

Surrey Police have now charged 60-year-old James Cartwright with murder as part of their investigation.

After the body was found a week ago, he was also charged with control and coercion.

The name of the deceased woman has not yet been released and the autopsy results have not yet been released.

This came after police responded to calls from the hotel in Surrey at 8.43am on Sunday, April 14.

After the terrible discovery, the officers were warned by the emergency services.

A police spokesman said: “A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection with the ongoing murder investigation in Bagshot.”

“James Cartwright, of West Street, Axminster, was charged with murder, control and coercion following his arrest on Friday, April 19.

“He was remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on April 22.”

Detective Inspector Debbie Birch, senior investigating officer, previously said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“The investigation is still in its early stages and a dedicated team of officers are working around the clock to monitor the investigation.”

The five-star hotel, which bills itself as ‘Surrey’s most luxurious spa and hotel retreat’, has 124 rooms and is set in 120 hectares of parkland.

It also houses the RFU’s Center of Athletic Development and serves as an indoor training venue for the national team.
