A man accused of shooting two people, including one fatally, outside a gentlemen’s club early Sunday in Arlington was taken into police custody but released and currently faces no criminal charges, officials said.

Officers responded to a business in the 2700 block of Majesty Drive around 1:15 a.m. and found two gunshot victims, police said.

A 30-year-old man, identified in county medical records as Abel Alberto Rodriguez, and a 40-year-old man were lying in the roadway near the club’s parking lot.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. The older man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

The suspected shooter, whose identity has not yet been released, remained at the scene and was apprehended by officers.

Detectives believe the suspected shooter was inside the club when the 40-year-old – with whom he had had previous conflicts – confronted him, leading to the two getting into a verbal altercation outside the business.

While they were arguing, Rodriguez, a friend of the 40-year-old, arrived at the location and became involved in the fight.

A short time later shots were fired, police said.

Officers found a firearm near the 40-year-old and investigators have not ruled out that the shooting occurred in self-defense, according to police.

Police consulted with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office and decided Sunday not to file criminal charges against the suspected shooter.

The investigation is ongoing.
