Carson City will celebrate Cinco de Mayo for three days, starting May 3 in Fuji Park and ending at the Brewery Arts Center on May 5.

“This bicultural event creates exciting opportunities to learn more about Mexican American culture. The performances support and spread Mexican art, music, dance and folklore as a learning tool for all ages and demographics,” the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department said in a news release.

The “Cinco de Mayo Celebración” is free and open to the public, officials said.

“The event includes a taco contest in Fuji Park, a wine walk with the Downtown Business Association Cinco de Mayo theme, live painting with Edwin ‘Esco’ Martinez, live music with Just Alfredo, an arts and crafts vendor fair, interactive children’s activities, food, drinks and free performances by Ballet Folklórico Internacional de Reno and Danza Azteca Aztlán,” the release said.

The festival is a collaboration between the Brewery Arts Center, Carson City Parks and Recreation, Visit Carson City, Family Fun Fridays, Ballet Folklórico Internacional de Reno and Danza Azteca Aztlán.

The festivities kick off with a family-friendly taco contest at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road, on May 3 from 5-8 p.m.

The Downtown Business Association Wine Walk will take place May 4 from 1-5 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., and participating downtown businesses.

Food, art, vendors, music and more activities are scheduled from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on May 5 at the Brewery Arts Center.
