The FredNats clinched a series split with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers after a 6-2 win Sunday at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The FredNats took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a line drive single by Brandon Pimentel that scored Phillip Glasser. Their lead was 2-0 after Jose Colmenares’ sacrifice fly for Elijah Green.

Fredericksburg starter Travis Sthele was efficient with the two-point lead. He allowed just one baserunner in the second inning, working around a single and a walk in the third to maintain the 2-0 lead.

The FredNats’ lead increased to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning after Brenner Cox plated Pimentel. Sthele ended his afternoon with a scoreless fourth.

After Nata Ochoa scored on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead, the FredNats scored their final two points of the day as Pimentel Green and Everett Cooper III drove home to make it a 6-0 lead.

The Fredericksburg bullpen finished off the Woodpeckers, highlighted by reliever Mason Denaburg’s two scoreless innings.

The FredNats hit the road next week for a six-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds, beginning Tuesday.
