Erik Jones returned to the Care Center at Talladega Superspeedway after a vicious collision during Sunday’s GEICO 500 and has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Jones was involved in a multi-car accident with his Toyota teammates on Sunday afternoon with 33 laps to go. The group of seven drivers pitted a few laps earlier and were single-file entering Turn 3 when contact sent Jones, the second car in line behind Tyler Reddick, head-on into the outside wall.

The crash ended the day for Jones, Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin. John Hunter Nemechek was also collected but finished the race.

After the crash, Jones warned his No. via the car radio. 43 Legacy Motor Club across his back. He was evaluated and released from the field care center, then spoke to the media.

“I’m in pain,” Jones said at the time. “I think I really stretched it a lot, so it’s going to be a long week just trying to recover and feel better. But I’m doing well and it will get better.”

It was not clear at what point Jones returned to the care center for additional care. He was credited with a 35th place.
