A wildfire triggers an evacuation alert for Saprae Creek Estates near Fort McMurray

An evacuation warning was issued Sunday for the small community of Saprae Creek Estates in northern Alberta, south of Fort McMurray.

The Alberta Emergency Alert, issued at 3:50 p.m., warned residents of the hamlet that a nearby wildfire could spread into the community.

Everyone in the area must be ready to leave at short notice.

“If you are in Saprae Creek Estates, remain alert and follow emergency services instructions,” the warning read.

At 4:30 p.m., the Alberta Wildfire dashboard showed an out-of-control 30-acre fire southeast of the community, just west of the Christina River.

Saprae Creek Estates is located approximately 25 kilometers south of Fort McMurray.
