The free beacon of Washington Editor-in-Chief Eliana Johnson appeared on NewsNation with Chris Stirewalt on Sunday, where she discussed whether former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York would benefit his campaign in the court of public opinion.

“If Trump takes the stand … the defense’s star witness in this is Michael Cohen,” Johnson said, noting that the convicted felon and attorney “is not exactly known for his reliability, truthfulness, honesty and common sense.” Johnson also said that prosecutors will have a difficult time proving that Trump played a direct role in creating the corporate data he is accused of falsifying, and that “Trump will be hit hardest because he did not actively campaign.”

Trump is expected to testify at the trial. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday.
