CONTROVERSIAL Zanu PF loyalist and preacher Passion Java has criticized the country’s healthcare system.

In an interview on DJ Ollah 7’s podcast, Java said Zimbabwe’s healthcare system is crippled, referring to Chitungwiza Hospital, and that he was motivated to donate medical supplies to the facility after hearing about its problems.

Zimbabwe’s health care facilities are in a critical state and are facing shortages of staff, medicines and equipment.

Passion Java Ministries, together with the Lilly Java Foundation, have donated more than 25 wheelchairs, two ambulances, hospital beds and blankets to the hospital, which like many other public health centers in the country are struggling.

“I was moved to hear that women are giving birth on the floor because hospitals don’t have beds and blankets,” Java said.

“I have taken over (adopted) a hospital department that I want to renovate. There are no toilets and people use the bucket system. Influential personalities like Winky D should not come out publicly and denounce such ‘truths’; they should instead use their influence to promote positive change.

“Even the procedure to import the ambulances from South Africa for donations was insane.

“They were supposed to enter Zimbabwe for free, but I couldn’t get them in. I had to make a plan to pay them. To be honest, people are having a hard time in Zimbabwe.”

Java is known for supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu PF party. He played a crucial role in the party’s campaign in the run-up to the 2023 harmonized elections.

Meanwhile, Java will host an event called Night of Wonders at the National Sports Stadium on May 9. Standard
